celebration of sorts

So many things I want to say. Yay us, for one. Witnessing the rising wave of this new era is such a powerful and historically significant act. And while I have no illusion that Obama will solve all of our problems, I am so grateful to be able to look towards our future with new hope. (More on this next time…)

Yet while we celebrate this momentous victory — not just Democrats or African Americans, or even Americans alone, but “we” the world as a whole — I am also saddened to know that this election will also restrict the rights and freedoms of others. I still long for the day when a person is neither judged nor limited by his or her race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, religion, or because of who they love. We have come a long way, yet we still have so far to go…

I actually have a whole lot more to say, but for now, I also just wanted to thank every one who joined the coming out party. I loved hearing about who you are and where you’re from and even why you read. Connecting the dots, so to speak. I appreciate everyone who spoke up, and of course I am so touched by your kind words and support.

Some of you are regular readers, some long time lurkers. Many are curious about the adoption journey, while what seems to resonate with others are themes of infertility and loss. Some of you came out for the molten chocolate cake, I know, so I didn’t want to disappoint.

To each of you, and to those who were still too shy to say hi (it’s never too late), thank you for being part of this journey.

And to Shelley in South Dakota, who started reading to better understand her daughter who was struggling to conceive, what a wonderful mom you must be. Because aside from the families we long to build, what we’re really looking for is some understanding and support, and a little compassion.

  1. Understanding, support and a little compassion . . . seems so simple and obvious, yet isnt’ always what we experience.

  2. Vintage Mommy, it seems the least, the very least, I could do, and I am so sorry that it isn’t that simple and obvious to everyone who deserves it and needs it.
