perfect moment monday

Just back from a wonderful week away and our last getaway of the year. I’m still trying to catch up with my Google reader, and now I must get back to work, so please forgive my absence. I have so much to say and show, but I have to begin with our last day first.

Yesterday I was blessed to have lunch with Lori and her beautiful children, Tessa and Reed. M and I were passing through Denver on our way home from a quick yet fantastic trip through the southwest, and we met for a lovely lunch in a cozy booth on our way to the airport. It was absolutely a two-hour string of perfect moments.

I was lucky enough to meet Lori six weeks ago at the BlogHer conference in San Francisco. Ever since soaking her in for just a few days then, I’d been looking forward to more. I am so grateful to have had this time together and to meet her beautiful kids!

Tessa is gorgeous, smart and funny, with a fine fashion sense. Within five minutes of meeting her, she had scooted under the table and made herself comfortable next to me, before emptying the contents of my purse on the table and carefully scrutinizing each item. She modeled my glasses and took pictures of all of us. She pretended to talk on my cell phone, carefully avoiding dialing Alaska, while taking notes as if she were at work. Hmm, where do you think she’s seen that before?

Reed is a beautiful, sweet and gentle boy, just a love. And clever too. Within minutes he was navigating my i-pod, scrolling through and showing Lori all of our pictures. He’s also quite a little photographer, with a little help from Mom. He has an impressive appetite, double fisting two desserts (but not before eating his whole lunch). He was crawling all over M and melting his heart with his sweetness, and my little goodbye hug was just darling.

Aside from a yummy lunch, we took some hilarious pictures which I’m not at liberty to share here. M and I had a great laugh on our way home re-living the precious moments we captured. Basking in the joy of Lori’s family after learning the incredible story of how it was created was truly a wonderful way to end our vacation! We only hope we can return sometime soon for another fix…

  1. You two are so kind. Having the kids crawl all over YOU and go through YOUR purse was quite a vacation for ME.

The kids talked about our visit for hours afterward. Methinks we will have to plan a trip to San Fran at some point.

And, of course, our casa es your casa. Anytime.

    Mwah to you both.

  2. So glad you got to spend time with Lori. Seeing as you both inspire me so much, I’m sorry I wasn’t there to join in on the lunch! I’m happy, though, that you two got to reconnect because I know meetings like that help you stay excited and optimistic about your own adoption story!

  3. Sounds like a great time and a perfect candidate for perfect moment Monday. This is my first foray into blogging anonymously (everyone who reads my ‘real’ blog I already know), but would totally get a kick out of meeting some of my fellow bloggers one day. Glad you had such a great time!
