gung hay fat choy!

So another lunar year has come to a close. Today begins a 15-day celebration that ushers out the Year of the (Fire) Pig and heralds the new Year of the (Earth) Rat. For those familiar with ancient Chinese astrology, you may recall the enormous hype surrounding a baby boom last year with a mad rush to give birth to tiny “golden piglet” babies. That’s because Fire Pig Year is a very auspicious year to be born. Born just once every 60 years, fire pig babies (aka “golden piglets”) are said to be blessed with easy, comfortable lives with much luck and wealth (think of a happy lazy pig rolling in dirt, being fed constantly). To those of you fortunate enough to have babies last year, congratulations. To the rest of us, may we be blessed with beautiful, clever and courageous babies born in the Year of the Rat!
